Weekly Update for December 20, 2024

As we battle flu season, please remember to email absent@fuma.org if your son needs to miss school due to illness or for any doctor's appointments.

CHRISTMAS BREAK ENDS SUNDAY, JANUARY 5

We hope everyone has a safe and restful holiday break! Please remember that break ends for all boarding cadets on Sunday, January 5. All boarding cadets must be signed in at the Commandant's Department by 7 PM on Sunday.

DO YOU WANT TO RE-ENROLL YOUR CADET FOR NEXT YEAR?

Re-enrollment contracts will be available in your Finalsite profile next month. You will receive an email from the Admissions Office detailing what is required to re-enroll your cadet. If you are ready to re-enroll, please start your financial aid process now. For families wanted to re-enroll in January, please begin your financial aid process by December 31, 2024.

START SUBMITTING YOUR SPRING BREAK LEAVE REQUESTS IN ORAH

As we begin Christmas Break, we now look towards our next Major Leave which is Spring Break that is scheduled for Friday, March 7-Sunday, March 16. All cadets must depart campus for Spring Break. Spring Break Leave Requests are due in Orah by Friday, February 7.

ASVAB TEST SET FOR JANUARY 23

The ASVAB test registration information will be available soon. The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) will be administered at Fork Union Military Academy on January 23 at 1:00 PM. Juniors, seniors, and postgraduates are eligible to sit for the test, which is free for the family.

JUNIOR WORKSHOP OPEN FOR REGISTRATION

Registration for the Junior Workshop is now open until January 24. This workshop is strictly for Juniors and runs for Term 4 and Term 5. It includes 21 sessions of SAT Test Prep, College Application Prep, and scheduled College Visits. This workshop is an additional fee of $345, and a cadet must be registered to participate. DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN REGISTER FOR OUR RESOURCE PROGRAM AT ANY TIME?

The resource program is designed to provide additional structured, supervised time for cadets to work on their course materials. On top of remedial instruction or help understanding their course matter, the resource program can provide cadets with additional academic skills such as time management, study skills, and test prep skills. Cadets in resource will have the added benefit of an additional instructor who will be able to monitor their progress and keep them on track academically.

As Term 3 begins on Monday, now is the perfect opportunity to enroll and give your cadet the tools for academic success.

Cost: $1,500 for the year/$300 by term.

It's time to schedule your cadet's portraits! We are pleased to be able to recommend Kristin Firewicz Studios to our cadet families. Kristin is a professional photographer contracted by the Academy to take campus photos throughout the year and has been specializing in high school senior photography for over 10 years. Kristin is local to Fork Union and has a studio on campus. Please bookmark the link to our Academic Calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. This calendar highlights all the major events on campus for the academic year, including dates of when each term begins and ends, leave weekends, SAT and ACT tests and all holiday breaks.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Please always check the Academic Calendar for updates on events. Below are a few coming up in the next couple months:

• Christmas Leave | Friday, December 20 - Sunday, January 5, 2025
  • Christmas Leave begins on Friday, December 20 at 12:30 PM. All cadets are able to depart campus after class at 12:30 PM. Christmas Leave ends on Sunday, January 5. All boarding cadets must be back on campus between the times of 9 AM - 7 PM on Sunday. Please have all Leave Requests for Christmas submitted in Orah by December 6.
• Exemplary Conduct Leave Weekend for Term 2 | Friday, January 17-Sunday, January 19, 2025
  • Cadets who earned Exemplary Conduct for Term 2 are eligible to depart campus for the weekend. All leave requests must be submitted in Orah.
• ASVAB Test | Thursday, January 23, 2025
  • The ASVAB Test will be administered to eligible cadets on Thursday, January 23. If you have any questions about the ASVAB Test, please contact Mrs. Kelsey Hill at hillk@fuma.org.
• Leave Weekend for All Cadets | Friday, January 31-Sunday, February 2, 2025
  • All cadets in good standing are eligible to depart for the weekend. All leave requests must be submitted in Orah.
• Term 3 Final Exam | Thursday, February 6, 2025
  • The Term 3 Final Exam will be on Thursday, February 6.
• Term 4 Begins | Friday, February 7, 2025
  • Term 4 begins on Friday, February 7.
• Spring Break Major Leave | Friday, March 7-Sunday, March 16, 2025
  • All cadets must depart campus for Spring Break, starting on Friday, March 7. Please start submitting your cadet's Spring Break Leave Request in Orah.
